HC Deb 14 December 1938 vol 342 cc1999-2000W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the First Commissioner of Works what are the nature and approximate cost of the section of the work on the Bishopton factory for which tenders are being asked; how many firms are being asked to tender and of these how many have their headquarters in Scotland; what amount in extent and approximate value of concrete work is included; and whether tenders are being called separately for that work from British and/or Scottish firms?

Sir P. Sassoon

The next section for which it is proposed to invite tenders consists chiefly of buildings and protective earthworks, but will include some railway and other site-works. The estimated cost is between £400,000 and £500,000. The list of firms to be invited has not yet been settled, but it will include all suitable Scottish firms. It is not yet possible to give even an approximate estimate of the amount and value of the concrete work involved which will, however, be included in the building contract.
