§ Mr. Leckieasked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the damage recently caused by fire to Cannock Chase; and whether, in view of its ideal situation as a national park and the fact that so much of it is afforested by the Forestry Commissioners he will take into serious consideration the advisability of negotiating for it to be taken over for that purpose on the lines suggested by the National Park Committee in their report of April, 1931?
§ Sir K. WoodI have no information about the recent damage caused by fire to Cannock Chase. The Chase, I understand, is an extensive area, of which a small part has been leased to the Forestry Commission, the rest remaining in private ownership. The public are allowed access over a very large part of the Chase. The whole Chase is within an area for which a planning scheme is being prepared by a joint committee, so that there is every prospect that the general objects of a regional reserve as envisaged by the National Park Committee for Cannock Chase will be secured.
