Macleanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that on 17th November the ferry boat and motor-boat at Craignure, Mull, were driven on the rocks; that the passengers lives were seriously endangered in getting ashore through stormy water; and that all the goods, including the mails, were destroyed or damaged by sea water; and whether he will take steps to see that a pier is erected at Craignure, which is the main point from which the people of Mull leave the island?

My hon. and learned Friend will be aware that the question of the reconstruction of the pier at Craignure is one for the consideration, in the first instance, of the Argyll County Council in the exercise of their powers under the Harbours, Piers and Ferries (Scotland) Act, 1937.
