§ Mr. BurginThe only toll bridge under my direct control is that across the Menai Straits. This bridge was originally built, is being maintained and is about to be reconstructed at the cost of the taxpayer. The tolls levied are an offset to the charges falling upon the Exchequer in respect of the bridge. The Conway Bridge is vested in Commissioners who are the members of the town council for the time being. Discussions are taking place between my Department and the Commissioners as to the provision of a new bridge. The Selby Bridge is vested in a private company. The possible freeing of this bridge from tolls cannot be dissociated from the proposed Selby Bypass for which alternative lines are now being surveyed.
