HC Deb 19 November 1937 vol 329 cc737-8W
Mr. T. Williams

asked the Secretary for Mines the approximate number of persons who received payment for mining royalties during each of the last 10 years, and the aggregate sum received during that period?

Captain Crookshank

During the period 1927–1936 the estimated amount paid by colliery owners in Great Britain in royalties and wayleaves (including the rental value of freehold minerals where worked by the proprietor) was £52,798,000. Figures of the number of coal royalty owners are not extracted annually, but it is estimated that in January, 1937, they numbered about 4,300.
