HC Deb 11 November 1937 vol 328 c1874W
Mr. Groves

asked the Minister of Labour the amount of reduction per week suffered by unemployed persons in West Ham since the standstill allowances were departed from?

Mr. E. Brown

Statistics in this form relating to the County Borough of West Ham are not available. In the Board's administrative areas of Canning Town and Stratford, which include East Ham, Ilford, Dagenham and parts of the administrative County of Essex, as well as West Ham, there were at 17th September, 264 applicants receiving allowances which had been reduced by way of adjustment of Standstill arrangements otherwise than on account of personal earnings. It is estimated that the average reduction in these cases was approximately 3s. per week.
