HC Deb 11 November 1937 vol 328 cc1880-1W
Mr. Holdsworth

asked the Home Secretary whether he proposes to initiate investigations into the possibility of spontaneous combustion of stripped film as a possible source of fires in the making of lacquers?

Sir S. Hoare

Several fires have occurred in film stripping works where spontaneous combustion was suggested as a possible cause. I understand that there has been some investigation into this problem and I will consider whether any further research would appear likely to lead to useful results. I would point out, however, that strict precautions are in any case required in such works in view of the serious risk of fire whether due to spontaneous combustion or to other causes.
