HC Deb 11 November 1937 vol 328 c1872W
Mr. Perkins

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will state the total number of long-hiring agreements under the scheme for unemployment insurance for agricultural workers and gardeners that have been made in the county of Gloucester during 1937?

Mr. E. Brown

Between 1st January and 27th October, 1937, there were received through the local offices of my Department in the County of Gloucester, 38 declarations of long-hirings which were within the scope of Section 10 of the Unemployment Insurance (Agriculture) Act, 1936, except that in two cases they were received after the prescribed time limit had expired. In addition a number of declarations of contracts were received which are not regard ed as long-hirings for the purposes of Section to, since there was provision for the termination of the contracts in question before the end of the hiring period.
