HC Deb 09 November 1937 vol 328 c1612W
Mr. Lunn

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he will ensure that this House will have an opportunity of considering the amendments to the Constitution of Southern Rhodesia, contained in the Constitution Amendment Bill now before the Parliament, before they receive the sanction of His Majesty's Government; and whether he has given any assurance in advance with regard to His Majesty's assent?

Marquess of Hartington

Drafts of the proposed amendments of the Southern Rhodesia Constitution, including the Bill referred to, were published last year, with a full explanatory despatch from the Governor, in the Command Paper Cmd. 5218. As stated in a reply given in the House on the 29th July of last year, the Southern Rhodesia Government had been informed that the Secretary of State was prepared to accept these amendments, and they have now been brought into operation.
