asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what is the grade classification, pay, leave, and sick leave of the asylum attendants employed at the Royal Naval Hospital, Great Yarmouth; and whether they are paid for a six-or sevenday week?

Asylum attendants employed at the Royal Naval Hospital, Great Yarmouth, are graded as follow:

  • Chief attendant.
  • Head attendant.
  • Attendants.

The scale of pay, including proficiency pay, of the chief attendant is from 71s. 5d. to 88s. 9d. a week, and of the head attendant from 65s. 3d. to 69s. 4d. a week. The attendants are on a scale ranging from 44s. 5d. by four annual increments to 55s. Id. a week, but, in addition, they are eligible for proficiency pay at varying rates and in certain cases for charge pay. The pay of an attendant in receipt of the maximum proficiency pay and charge pay totals 64s.11d, a week.

Free uniform is provided. The rates are for seven days a week. Leave with pay is 17 days a year for the chief attendant and 14 days a year for the remainder. Additional leave up to four days may be granted at the discretion of the medical officer in charge under certain prescribed conditions. After a qualifying period of one year, the attendant staff are allowed sick leave on two-thirds pay (subject to the prescribed insurance deductions) up to a maximum of six weeks in any period of 12 months.
