HC Deb 04 November 1937 vol 328 c1154W
Mr. Donner

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any Italian workmen are at present employed in building the Berbera-Hargeisa road to the old Ethiopian-Somaliland frontier, or any other roads in or through British Somaliland; and, if so, which roads?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

As I explained in a reply to the hon. Member for Derby (Mr. Noel-Baker) on 21st July, the road works in British Somaliland required for the transit traffic are being carried out by the Government of the Protectorate with local labour. So far as I am aware that arrangement still holds good and no Italian workmen are employed on such works.
