HC Deb 04 November 1937 vol 328 c1135W
Mr. Bull

asked the Minister of Health whether he can state the attitude of his Department towards the representations which have been made to him on the subject of the Brimsdown smells; and what action the local authority can take to diminish what is a growing nuisance?

Sir K. Wood

Close attention has been and is still being given to this problem by my Department in co-operation with the local authority and the firms in the area with a view to finding practicable means of preventing the smells. Steps already taken have improved conditions and investigations are proceeding to effect still further improvements. Action to abate a nuisance may be taken by a local authority, but it is a defence to prove that the best practicable means have been taken to prevent or counteract the nuisance.
