§ Mr. E. Smithasked the Minister of Pensions whether he can now make a statement regarding the administration of the Ministry of Pensions in reply to the case submitted by the deputation of hon. Members whom he received in February, 1937?
§ Mr. RamsbothamI cannot properly make any general statement regarding the administration of my Department except on the vote for the Ministry in Committee of Supply. With regard to the issues raised by the deputation introduced by the hon. Member in February last, which advocated far - reaching' changes in the accepted principles of war service compensation, I can only say that no evidence has yet been produced to me which would call for formal inquiry. I would add that the Ministry's organisation already provides means of approach for all cases of claim or complaint, and I am personally always ready to examine any individual cases that hon. Members may put to me.
Mr. De Ia Bèreasked the Minister of Pensions whether he can give some information regarding the provision of treatment for Major John Birkett for wounds received in the War?
§ Mr. RamsbothamExhaustive inquiries have been made into this gentleman's case, but the War Office inform me that they have no record of his service as a Commissioned Officer in the Great War. I am, however, making further inquiries, and as my hon. Friend has presumably satisfied himself as to Mr. Birkett's service, perhaps he can assist me with more detailed information.
