HC Deb 02 November 1937 vol 328 cc752-3W
Mr. Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware of the disparity in the salary rates and conditions of employment of the staffs employed by the National Library in Edinburgh, the Register House in Edinburgh, and the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh; and whether he will cause inquiries to be made with a view to the equalisation of salary rates and conditions for similar qualifications and employment?

Mr. Elliot

I have made inquiry and am aware of the differences mentioned in the first part of the question, which are due to differences in the organisation and duties of the Departments. The existing scales of salary in the Register House were settled in agreement with the representatives of the staff in 1933; and there has been no change of circumstances calling for further inquiry. The salary rates and conditions of the other two Departments are kept under review and considered from time to time as circumstances require.
