HC Deb 18 March 1937 vol 321 c2290W
Mr. Holdsworth

asked the Lord President of the Council whether he is aware that the statistical position of sugar has so much improved during the past few years that requirements in the coming year are likely to be actually in excess of production, thus bringing about a further reduction in the visible supplies which have already been reduced to manageable limits; and whether, in these circumstances, he will suggest a postponement of the International Sugar Conference?

Mr. R. MacDonald

I am aware of the fact that the statisical position of sugar has improved, but capacity for production still substantially exceeds current consumption. I do not consider that the improvement referred to affords any reason for postponing the proposed International Sugar Conference.
