HC Deb 18 March 1937 vol 321 cc2274-5W
Sir W. Jenkins

asked the Home Secretary what percentage grant is paid by the Home Office to county councils on buildings for police cottages, police stations, police courts, county courts, and magistrates' clerks' offices; and what grant is paid for maintenance, if any, on all buildings other than the aforementioned which are required for police administration?

Sir J. Simon

The Exchequer grant paid by the Home Office in aid of the cost of police includes one-half of the net expenditure in providing and maintaining all buildings required for police administration, including police stations and cottages. No grant is paid in respect of county or police courts or magistrates' clerks' offices.
