HC Deb 17 March 1937 vol 321 c2098W
Mr. Mander

asked the Lord President of the Council under what Act of Parliament or legal authority it is proposed to make the changes in the Coronation oath?

Mr. R. MacDonald

In accordance with precedent, express amending legislation is not required for changes necessary in order to bring the words of the oath into harmony with Statutes passed from time to time. The Statute of Westminster and the Declaration of the Imperial Conference of 1926 referred to in the Preamble of that Statute necessitated the changes which have been made in the oath administered at the Coronation of King George V.
