HC Deb 16 March 1937 vol 321 c1871W
Sir A. Wilson

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has any information as to the number of persons who have lost employment consequent on the cessation of productive operations by Gaumont-British, Limited, at Shepherd's Bush; and whether he is aware that the majority of men affected are upwards of 45 years of age and cannot readily find employment elsewhere?

Mr. E. Brown

I have been in communication with the corporation and they inform me that, while the closing down of the Shepherd's Bush Studio necessarily entails a reduction of staff, they hope to absorb a certain number of those affected when they commence production of films at Pinewood. In these circumstances it is not possible at the present time to state the exact position.
