HC Deb 15 March 1937 vol 321 c1652W
Mr. Barnes

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the continuing high price of potatoes; and whether he will at once consider the question of suspending the duty on imported potatoes?

Captain Wallace

Supplies and prices of potatoes are kept under constant review. I would, however, point out that for most varieties, average wholesale and retail prices are slightly lower than a year ago. The question of suspending the duty is a matter, in the first instance, for the Import Duties Advisory Committee.
