HC Deb 16 July 1937 vol 326 c1661W
Mr. McEntee

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that no discipline officer serving at Swansea prison has received the award of the Imperial Service medal during the past 12 years; that one officer once refused the medal; and whether he will give an assurance that this refusal is not being made a reason for not awarding the medal to other officers of the prison?

Sir S. Hoare

In the last 12 years this medal has been awarded to five officers on retirement from Swansea Prison, namely, three Chief Officers, one Principal Officer and one Officer. I am told that an officer who retired in 1924 failed to attend in order to receive the medal which had been awarded to him, but there is no foundation for the suggestion that this incident affected in any way the consideration of the qualifications of other officers.
