HC Deb 07 July 1937 vol 326 cc366-7W
Mr. Macquisten

asked the Minister of Transport when the Crinan Canal was closed; how long it is to be closed; and if he will endeavour to accelerate its reopening by putting additional men on the job?

Mr. Burgin

The Crinan Canal had to be closed on 15th June when the sea-gates were seriously damaged by a laden vessel. I hope that it will be reopened this week-end but this depends upon the gate sluice castings being received from Glasgow. Extra men have been employed in the Canal workshops.
