HC Deb 22 February 1937 vol 320 cc1661-3W
Mr. Hopkin

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will give the amount of money paid from the Unemployment Insurance Fund and by the Unemployment Assistance Board to persons in Wales for each year from 1921 to date; and will he give the figures for Glamorgan, Monmouth, and Carmarthen, separately?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

I am having this information extracted and will circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT as soon as possible.

Major Herbert

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can give any information as to the progress of the South Wales trading estate at Treforest; and what new industries have been, or are about to be, started on this estate or elsewhere in South Wales?

Mr. E. Brown

In reply to the first part of question, I have at present nothing to add to the answer which I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for the Eastern Division of Cardiff on the 9th February, and of which I am sending my hon. and gallant Friend a copy. Prospective tenants are normally insistent that their inquiries should be treated as confidential and my hon. Friend will readily appreciate that it is impossible to disclose details of cases in which negotiations are still proceeding. I have received information of seven new industries which have been established in the Special Areas in South Wales in the last 18 months or so, and of four new works which are about to be set up.
