HC Deb 17 February 1937 vol 320 cc1191-2W
Mr. Ede

asked the Minister of Transport (1) in how many cases during the past 12 months he has rejected applications by local authorities for the restriction of the speed of mechanically-pro- pelled vehicles on roads; and in how many instances these applications were opposed by the motoring organisations;

(2) in how many cases during the past 12 months he has acceded to applications by persons or organisations, other than local authorities, for the removal of restrictions on the speed of motor vehicles; and in how many of these cases was the application opposed by the local authority for the area?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

Orders for the restriction of roads are usually though not invariably opposed by the motoring organisations, and suggestions for derestriction are frequently opposed by local authorities. I regret that it is impracticable to give the hon. Member the details for which he asks without re-examination of the papers in every single case.
