§ Mr. E. BrownThe total number of unemployed persons (insured and uninsured) on the registers of the Employment Exchanges at Chepstow and Newport (Monmouthshire) at 14th December, 1936, were 474 and 6,286 respectively, of whom 403 at Chepstow and 5,463 at Newport were men aged 18 and over.
There is no information available which would show the proportions of these who have had training in light and heavy industries, respectively, but the statement below analyses the numbers of insured men aged 18–64 recorded as unemployed in these areas at 14th December last, according to the industries in which they were employed at July, 1936, or (if unemployed at that date) had previously been employed:—
