§ Mr. E. BrownOn 29th January, 1937, the number of unemployment benefit appeals awaiting decision by the umpire was 383. Sixty-three of these had been outstanding for one month, but not more than two months, and six for more than two months.
§ Mr. Footasked the Minister of Labour whether he has considered the advisability of amending Section 44 of the Unemployment Act, 1935, so that in cases where the court of referees is unanimous, and leave to appeal is refused by the chairman, claimants who are not members of associations of employed persons may nevertheless appeal to the umpire; and whether he will refer this question to the Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee for their consideration and advice?
§ Mr. E. BrownI am not aware of any circumstances suggesting that a review of the provisions of Section 44 of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1935, is desirable, but if the hon. Member has any specific case in mind, perhaps he will communicate with me.
