HC Deb 16 December 1937 vol 330 c1361W
Mr. Parker

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the age limit of 45 years for civilians acceptable for service as Army cooks can be relaxed, at least in favour of individuals who have spent the greater part of their life in the Service with an exemplary record, in view of the fact that no such age limit exists in other branches of the Service, such as engineering, which involve work of a more strenuous nature?

Sir V. Warrender

The age limit of 45 years for the engagement of civilian employés is discretionary and may be waived in suitable cases in favour of active and capable ex-service men at the discretion of the local officer.
