HC Deb 09 December 1937 vol 330 c597W
Brigadier-General Brown

asked the Secretary of State for War whether in future the recommendations for promotion will be made through the Selection Board, or what is to be the procedure?

Sir V. Warrender

Promotions in the Army are approved by His Majesty the King on the recommendation of the Secretary of State for War. In order to assist him, the Secretary of State has a Selection Board which suggests a number of names for each vacancy.
