HC Deb 09 December 1937 vol 330 c582W
Major Dower

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that it is proposed to lay an electric cable along Borrowdale and that, though desirable in itself, this cable is to be laid overhead on pylons that will seriously disfigure one of the most beautiful valleys in Cumberland; what would be the lowest extra cost of laying this cable underground; and what steps are being taken with this purpose in view?

Mr. Burgin

I have been asked to reply. An application by the Mid-Cumberland Electricity Supply Company, Limited, for consent to erect an overhead line along Borrowdale has been received and is under consideration. If an inquiry is held into the application the extra cost of laying the cable underground and all other relevant considerations will be taken into account.
