Mr. Shinwell

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he can state the reason for the retirement of the late industrial assurance commissioner; whether he is in receipt of a pension and, if so, what is the amount; and whether Government consent was obtained before he accepted the position of director of the Prudential Assurance Company?

The officer referred to retired in May last on attaining the age of sixty-five. He is in receipt of a pension of £875 a year. The answer to the last part of the question is in the affirmative.
