HC Deb 20 April 1937 vol 322 cc1596-7W
Mr. Mitchell

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that there was a 40-minute delay on the telephone between London and Edinburgh on the evening of 14th April; and if he can take steps to improve this service?

Major Tryon

As indicated in my reply to my hon. Friend's question on the 22nd of March, arrangements have already been made to increase very appreciably the number of lines to Scotland from London. The volume of trunk traffic in the evening continues to grow and until the addi- tional circuits are available I am afraid that it is not possible to avoid the occurrence of delay on some calls between London and Edinburgh during the cheap rate period.
