HC Deb 09 November 1936 vol 317 c527W
Mr. McENTEE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the number of men in 1909 in the Preventive Officers and Preventive Men Class and the number of men to-day in the Preventive Officers and Assistant Preventive Officers Grade; and whether the duties now discharged are substantially the same as those discharged in 1909?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

The authorised establishment of Preventive Officers in 1909 was 510 and at the present time is 613. The corresponding figures for the Preventive Men, as they were called in 1909, or Assistant Preventive Officers as they are now called, are 1,000 and 930 respectively. The duties performed by these officials are substantially the same now as in 1909.
