HC Deb 09 November 1936 vol 317 cc526-7W
Mr. De la BèRE

asked the Financial secretary to the Treasury whether facilities could be afforded to residents in this country receiving Christmas presents from America to have Customs concessions at Christmas time on these parcels, in the same way that residents in America are allowed Customs concessions from the American Customs on Christmas presents and parcels sent from this country to America?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

My hon. Friend's suggestion has been noted, but I would point out that there is no provision in the existing law under which presents as such, from whatever country imported, could be exempted from Customs duties.
