HC Deb 04 May 1936 vol 311 c1355W
Mr. LENNOX-BOYD

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the decline in the home acreage, the increase in foreign imports, and the possibility of expansion in home producton adequate to meet home needs, he will consider taking special measures to reduce imports of foreign onions?

Dr. BURGIN

In the absence of a marketing scheme, there is no power to regulate imports of onions. The question of any increase in duty is one for the Import Duties Advisory Committee in the first instance.
