HC Deb 02 March 1936 vol 309 c1020W
Mr. DAY

asked the Home Secretary whether he will state the number of persons convicted of murder and sentenced to death for the five years ended to the last convenient date; the number reprieved; the number of sentences quashed on appeal; the number of per sons certified as insane and removed to Broadmoor; and the number so convicted that were recommended to mercy by the jury, and with what result?

Sir J. SIMON

The particulars are as follow:

as provided by Section 6 of the Act, but by an irregular form of notice containing insufficient particulars, he will inquire into the case with a view to remission of the sentence?

Sir J. SIMON

I am aware of the facts of this case, but I know of no ground for any action on my part. The prisoner in question has served his sentence and has been released.
