ROBERTSasked the Minister of Labour the number of schemes for water supply that have been assisted by the Commissioner for the Special Areas in Wales; and whether he is prepared to make similar grants for water supply schemes in the Special Area within the County of Cumberland if properly devised schemes are submitted to him?
§ Mr. E. BROWNUp to the 31st March, 1936, 22 water supply schemes submitted by nine local authorities and water boards in the Special Areas in South Wales and Monmouthshire have been approved by the Commissioner for the Special Areas (England and Wales) for assistance from the fund administered by him. The total estimated cost of these schemes is £94,326. Assistance is also available from the fund for approved schemes submitted by authorities in the Special Area in West Cumberland. The Commissioner has approved a grant from the fund in respect of one water supply scheme estimated to cost £26,700. Rural water schemes for which Exchequer grants are available are not eligible for grant from the Special Areas Fund.
