HC Deb 21 May 1935 vol 302 c946W
Colonel ROPNER

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that British trade with Brazil, especially in respect to our export of coal, is suffering serious reduction; and whether German competition, which is largely replacing our own imports, is in any way specially subsidised?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am aware that there has been a decline in recent months in exports to Brazil, including exports of coal, and that this decline is to some extent attributable to German competition; but I am not aware of the existence of any subsidy for German exports to Brazil.
