HC Deb 19 July 1934 vol 292 cc1286-7W
Mr. GOLMIE

asked the Minister of Transport what facilities for transport, if any, other than the present diverted and consequently longer omnibus services it is proposed to provide during the reconstruction of Waterloo Bridge for those engaged in business who arrive daily at Waterloo Station between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., and who are desirous of proceeding to the West Central district?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The present arrangements for diverting traffic as a result of the closing of Waterloo Bridge were introduced by the Commissioner of Police in the exercise of his powers under the Metropolitan Police Act, 1839, which enables him to make special arrangements for the control of traffic in emergency or on special occasions. The operation of the present diversion is being closely watched by the Commissioner with a view to seeing whether any modification is practicable, and the whole position arising out of the closing of the bridge is the subject of the closest consultation between the Commissioner, the London Passenger Transport Board and my own Department.
