HC Deb 19 July 1934 vol 292 c1286W
Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Home Secretary whether the police have yet taken any action to enforce the use of pedestrian crossings in London; and, if not, whether they intend to take any such action?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The Regulations made by the Minister of Transport do not require pedestrians to use the crossing places and the police have no power to compel them to do so. The police, however, have instructions to do everything in their power to encourage pedestrians to use the crossings.
