§ Mr. HALL-CAINEasked the President of the Board of Trade if he can make any statement as to how British cotton and artificial silk imports will be affected by the proposed quota for such imports into the Dutch East Indies; and whether any representations are being made to the Dutch Government in this connection?
§ Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLEThe Government of the Netherlands East Indies took power last September to control imports of various products, including textiles, in the interests of local industries. No action has so far been taken in regard to textiles, although I understand that the Government have been considering the imposition of 1593W quotas on bleached goods. My right hon. Friend sees no occasion at present for formal representations to the Netherlands Government, but he is watching the position carefully.
