Duchess of ATHOLLasked the Secretary of State for India the number of irrigation schemes submitted by provincial governments which have been approved since 1921; and the total expenditure sanctioned on such schemes?
§ Sir S. HOAREpursuant to his reply—[OFFICIAL REPORT, 13th November, 1933; col. 539, Vol. 281], supplied the following statement:
The exact number of irrigation schemes sanctioned since 1921 cannot be stated, as only a comparatively small proportion come to the Secretary of State for sanction, and the precise date of approval in other cases is not always known. So far as can be traced from the reports that have reached me, the total number of schemes sanctioned is 36, and the estimated total cost of these is Rs.45,43,47,000.
