HC Deb 26 May 1933 vol 278 cc1437-8W
Mr. R. T. EVANS

asked the Minister of Labour the aggregate of payments made to unemployed men and women through the Exchanges of Wales and Monmouthshire Since January, 1921, and the total sum received in the same period in respect of unemployment insurance stamps?

Sir H. BETTERTON

Statistics of the amount of unemployment benefit paid in the various divisions are not available for any year prior to 1928. For figures in respect of Wales and Monmouthshire for each of the years 1928 to 1932 I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to a similar question by the hon. Member for the Gower Division (Mr. D. Grenfell).on 23rd March, 1933. It is estimated that the contribution of employers and employed persons during the five years 1928 to 1932 amounted to about £6,300,000.
