asked the Minister of Labour whether he can give statistics to show the total payments of the unemployment fund for the financial year ended 31st March, 1933, to correspond with the figure of £122,833,000 shown in the last column of yearly total on page 106 of Cmd. 4233 and also the monthly average of unemployed for that year?

Mr. HUDSON

The accounts of the Unemployment Fund for the financial year ended 31st March, 1933, are not yet completed, but the corresponding figure is about £117,870,000. This includes about £54,000,000 in respect of transitional payments and their administration. A count of the number of persons registered as unemployed is made once a month; the following are the figures for each month of the financial year 1932–33:
