asked the Secretary for Mines the number of coal-cutting machines in use in 1931 and 1932; the total output of coal obtained by the machines; and the number of conveyors in use at the coal face during the same period?

During the year 1932, 7,137 coal-cutting machines and 3,265 coal-face conveyors were in use at mines in Great Britain, and 80,286,000 tons of coal were cut by machine. The corresponding figures for 1931 were, 7,371, 3,137 and 76,864,000, respectively.
