HC Deb 01 June 1933 vol 278 c2075W
Captain FULLER

asked the Home Secretary the number of those in the Metropolitan Police Force who are at present debarred by statute from joining the Police Federation; and what the number will be if the present proposals are adopted?

Sir J. GILMOUR

At present 42 members of the Metropolitan Police Force of the rank of superintendent and above are excluded from the Police Federation under the terms of the Police Act, 1919. If the Bill now before Parliament becomes law in its present form, 185 existing chief and sub-divisional inspectors will be excluded forthwith, and ultimately the total number of all ranks excluded will rise to about 550.
