§ Mr. GROVESasked the Minister of Health what is the estimated population of Birmingham of Children under 10 years of age; and how many of such children have been immunised against diphtheria during the years 1930, 1931 and 1932?
Sir H. YOUNGIn reply to the first part of the question, the latest available figure is that of the 1931 Census, when 164,145 children under 10 years of age were enumerated in the City of Birmingham. I have no information as to the numbers of these children who have been immunised against diphtheria, but according to the annual reports of the Medical Officer of Health the total number of children in Birmingham who were fully or partially immunised against this disease was 4,339 in 1930, and 7,518 in 1931. The report for 1932 has not yet been received, but I understand that the number of immunisations during that year was 11,800.
