HC Deb 20 July 1933 vol 46 cc150-1W
Mr. Ward

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, further to his reply to the hon. Member for Poole on 7 July, Official Report, c. 163, if he will issue guidelines on the ventilation of buildings in high risk areas pending the report of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution.

Sir George Young

It would be premature to decide whether guidelines in relation to radon are necessary until the Royal Commission on environmental pollution has reported and until the National Radiological Protection Board has completed surveys—one purpose of which is to identify areas where levels are above average—and expressed its views. Government guidance on energy conservation already mentions the general desirability of maintaining adequate levels of ventilation in buildings.
