HC Deb 06 July 1933 vol 280 c516W
Captain BALFOUR

asked the Minister of Health upon what grounds his Department is opposed to the inclusion of glucose in jam; and in what particulars glucose falls short of the accepted standards for foodstuffs?

Sir H. YOUNG

I am advised that there is no public health objection to the use of pure glucose as a foodstuff. It is, however, generally considered that jam is better made with cane sugar, and that if made with glucose it is not so good. My view is, therefore, that notice of any such substitution should be given to the purchaser.
