HC Deb 21 December 1933 vol 284 cc1497-8W
Mr. PERKINS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total sum spent by the Government on national advertising during the last three years: and with which newspapers the money has been spent?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The amount expended from public funds on Press advertising during the last three completed financial years is approximately as follows:

£
1930 196,000
1931 121,000
1932 189,000

These figures include the expenditure of the Empire Marketing Board and in connection with the 5 per cent. War Loan Conversion. Figures are not available showing the distribution of these payments between different newspapers and periodicals, and their compilation would, I am afraid, involve a disproportionate amount of labour.
