HC Deb 02 November 1932 vol 269 cc1791-2W
Mr. CHORLTON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the attention of the Colonial Governments concerned has been drawn to the report of the Imperial Economic Committee on the subject of the cocoa industry (22nd Report, 88/503/22); and what steps are being taken to implement the recommendations of that committee with regard to the prohibition of the use of cocoa-butter substitutes throughout the Empire?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

Copies of the report in question have been forwarded to all those Colonies where raw cocoa is produced. With regard to the second part of the question, Trinidad is the only Colony, so far as I am aware, in which chocolate is manufactured. The Governor's attention will be drawn to the passage to which my hon. Friend refers. I am not in a position to reply to the question so far as other parts of the Empire are concerned.
