HC Deb 09 May 1932 vol 265 cc1558-9W
Mr. McGOVERN

asked the Home Secretary the names of persons at present committed to prison for taking part in unemployed demonstrations where disturbances occurred in England and Wales; their terms of imprisonment; and the names of persons awaiting trial?

Sir H. SAMUEL

To collect complete information as to persons imprisoned or awaiting trial on charges arising out of unemployed demonstrations would entail a great expenditure of time and trouble, and I regret that I cannot undertake to obtain it.

Mr. McGOVERN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the names of persons at present committed to prison for taking part in unemployed demonstrations where disturbances occurred; their terms of imprisonment; and the names of the persons awaiting trial?

Sir A. SINCLAIR

There are at present no persons serving sentences of imprisonment in Scottish prisons for offences arising out of disturbances in connection with demnstrations of unemployed and no persons in prison awaiting trial for such offences. A number of persons arrested in Dundee on the 1st instant and charged with assaulting the police in the execution of their duty are due for trial on 9th May, and on subsequent days.
